In his "Pre-Preface" he describes himself as "a navel gazing geezer sees through himself to the rectum of the world; send money, all problems solved! (I am in league with god! ) 'I can repair the break of day; I can patch the crack of dawn (if not fill Dawn's crack) ; I can catch the fall of evening; I can calm a tempest in a teacup; I and Death can cure the common cold; I and Time can mend a broken heart; and I can temporarily relieve a nymphomaniac's stress'.......and here West ends by saying he is not completely sure if the above statement is original or if he read it somewhere, hence the quotation marks. A very enjoyable and thoughtful book.
